Exam 01

  • In-class, 75 minutes
  • Non-programmable calculator permitted; one sheet of handwritten notes.
  • No other aids (notes, textbooks, computers, phones)
  • Show work when requested; clearly label answers

Content: Weeks 1–5

  • Exploratory data analysis (EDA)
  • Fitting and interpreting simple linear regression (SLR)
  • Regression equations and interpretation (slope/intercept)
  • Simulation-based inference (randomization test for slope)
  • Mathematical models for inference (t-based CIs/tests)
  • Prediction vs. confidence intervals
  • Model conditions and residual diagnostics
  • Model evaluation and assumptions in context

Format

  • Four sections
    • Multiple choice (concepts, interpretation)
    • Short answer (concise reasoning, set up calculations)
    • True/False with justification (1–2 sentences)
    • Evaluate a response (diagnose a student’s statement)
  • Emphasis on interpretation and understanding
  • You will not write code; you may be asked to interpret provided output
